Our Approach

Insight Pain Clinic is a collaboration between experienced physiotherapists and psychologists for assessing and treating a broad variety of pain conditions.

Our highly qualified physiotherapists and psychologists use up to date evidence and their teamwork gives you the best chance to improve and get more out of life.

We listen and take time to understand you, your pain picture, and what’s important to you. We create an individualised treatment plan, finding the best approach for improvements in your lifestyle and managing pain in the long term.

At Insight Pain Clinic we recognise persistent pain can affect many parts of your life – work, relationships, mood, sleep and the activities you value. Our clinicians can help you find joy in life, work to your best, and spend quality time with family and friends.

Insight Pain Clinic works across two sites; Sandy Bay and South Hobart

Physiotherapy

Our physiotherapists work with compassion and have advanced skills treating and managing pain. They are both Titled Pain Physiotherapists in recognition of their highly developed experience and knowledge of pain physiotherapy. Our physiotherapists also have a solid foundation of knowledge and practice in general musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

Our physiotherapists will provide a complete assessment as to why you have pain, what can be done to help and how you can influence it. We work with you to explore ways to be active and do more of what you wish. We assist you to make sense of your pain. We find exercises to help and we may use manual therapy, making sure we don’t repeat what you have already tried.

Our approach is supportive, individualised, and tailored to what is achievable for you.

Psychology

We recognise that experiencing ongoing pain is stressful. It may lead to you losing connection with the activities that are enjoyable, interesting, and meaningful in life. It is normal to experience changes to mood, relationships, and sleep. These challenges may take a toll on wellbeing and psychology can help.

Our psychology team is skilled in working with a range of psychological impacts of pain including anxiety, depression, frustration and anger, relationship difficulties, grief, and the effects of trauma. Our psychologists are able to help you make sense of your pain, help you find ways to reduce the impacts of your pain on your life, and help you improve your mood symptoms.

Our team have extensive experience in working collaboratively to:

  • Enhance connection with activities that are meaningful to you
  • Improve your sleep and mood
  • Respond to stress
  • Help develop skills to connect with family, social circles, intimate relationships and work activities
  • Reduce the impact of pain on your life, adapt to change, and build the skills for when it gets difficult.

A Team Approach

You may work with just one of the Insight Pain Clinic team or you may benefit from combined physiotherapy and psychology care. We know working together improves recovery, so where beneficial, Insight Pain Clinic will support a team approach to your care. We work closely with others in your care team – health professionals (e.g. GPs, other allied health, and specialists), workplaces and rehabilitation providers, and your family – to help you find long term solutions and move towards the life you want to live.
