FAQs

Do I need a referral?

Patients can either self-refer, or be referred by their treating clinician (e.g., GP, specialist doctor, physiotherapist, psychologist, other allied health, Return to Work coordinator etc).

Attending appointments

For the first appointment please arrive 10 minutes before your first appointment to fill out paperwork. Arriving early allows you to maximise the time you are in your appointment with your Insight Pain Clinic practitioner.

Parking

Parking is available at both locations. At South Hobart parking is available behind Participate Tasmania premises.

Accessibility

Both clinic locations have wheelchair accessibility options.

Payments

Payments for some appointments can include a rebate from medicare or health insurance, together with a gap payment.

Medicare offers some part-rebate for services for some sessions for psychologists and for physiotherapists. Please talk with your GP about getting a referral and an appropriate care plan (e.g., a Mental Health Care Plan for psychology or a Chronic Disease Management Plan for physiotherapy).

Some private health fund providers offer rebates for psychology and physiotherapy. Please check with your private health fund regarding your entitlements. Please note you are not able to use private health insurance to pay any gap for Medicare rebated appointments.

You will be advised of the fees before your first appointment.

Payments are due in full on the day of service. EFTPOS facilities are available.

Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA)

Departments of Veterans’ Affairs has scope to fund physiotherapy and psychology treatment, following a referral from your GP. There is no gap fee for sessions funded by DVA.

NDIS

Our clinicians provide services to NDIS clients who are on an NDIS plan with allocated funding for physiotherapy and psychology. If your funding is plan-managed you can choose your own clinician at Insight Pain Clinic.

Third-Party/Insurance

Insight Pain Clinic practitioners often work with patients who are referred for care funded under Worker’s Compensation or Motor Accident Insurance (e.g., MAIB). You require a specific referral to us to be seen under Workers Compensation or Motor Accident Insurance. If you are referred for care under these schemes, please ensure you provide your insurer’s details and claim number prior to booking your appointment.

Cancellations

Please contact the Sandy Bay or South Hobart location of your appointment via phone as soon as possible. We require at least 24 hours notice if you are unable to attend your appointment. This allows us time to offer the appointment to a person from the cancellation/waiting list.  We will give due consideration to exceptional circumstances, however failure to provide adequate notice of cancellation may result in the full fee being charged.
